Delhi Festivals in May
Buddha Jayanti also named 'Buddha Purnima' is a sacred festival for Buddhists as it is the Birthday of Lord Buddha who founded Buddhism. This festival falls on a full moon day of the fourth lunar month of Vaisakh which comes in May. Three significant events are celebrated on this day which is the Birth of Lord Buddha, Lord Buddha attaining supreme wisdom and finally Lord Buddha attaining Nirvana which is complete extinction of oneself at 80 years of age. Lord Buddha was considered the 9th incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Though, Gautam Buddha was not God and neither does the Buddhist philosophy entail it, He was merely a very Holy man who taught the human race to liberate oneself from material and worldly desires, bondage, misery and sufferings.
Mother's Day is the latest addition in the list of festivals in Delhi and is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This is the day that children express their love and respect to their mother celebrated on the second Sunday of May. They honour their mothers by gifting her with a special Mother's Day card, a gift or flowers and treat her like a queen. Children prepare meals and do all her chores and allow her to rest and enjoy this day to herself and for once allowing her not to think about her family and others but only herself. Some even pamper their mothers by taking her to a Spa and a Beauty Salon.
