North East Delhi
North East Delhi forms a very small but integral part of the National Capital Territory that was carved as one of the nine Districts of Delhi. It encompasses an area of 60 sq. km. that homes a population of over 17.5 lakhs. It also shares its boundaries on the south with East Delhi and on the west by the Districts of North Delhi and the Yamuna River.
North East Delhi was established as one of the nine Districts of Delhi in January 1997 after the Government planned to divide the city administratively into nine blocks. The administrative Headquarters of this region is located in the D. S. I. D. C. Office Complex at Nand Nagri with a pin code area of 110 093, exactly opposite Gagan Cinema Hall which is one of its main Landmarks. Prior to the division of the Capital City into various Districts, Delhi was managed as a singular unit with its headquarters at Tis Hazari which is considered of immense historical, social, cultural and economical significance.
The Administration Office of the North East Delhi District, currently managed by Deputy Commissioner G. L. Meena, is responsible for numerous functions that include Conduct of elections, Issue of various statuary documents, Land acquisition, Magisterial matters, Registration of property, Relief and Rehabilitation, Revenue courts and so forth.
The North East Delhi District is primarily a rural area with a fairly large urban size owing to its location that lies in the Trans Yamuna region. It homes 27 villages and hence the rural population is extremely high as compared to the other areas of Delhi but despite this fact, the literacy rate of this region is a good 77.85% which is comparatively reasonable.
North East Delhi is also predominantly a residential complex that homes a middle class genre of population. A majority of them own small businesses while only a few of the residents are into the service industry or private companies. The major population of this region comprises of residents following the Hinduism religion while it also homes a sizeable number of Muslim, Jain and Christian population with a few Baha’i Followers who also reside in this area. Hindi is the principle language spoken here and other common languages include Punjabi and Urdu while English is the principal written language.
North East Delhi also homes major market places that include Bhajanpura Market, Chhota Bazaar, Rohtash Nagar Market and many more. This region has witnessed a rapid growth and development in its infrastructure and economy through the years wherein the State Government has been providing various schemes to promote and improve the economy of this region.
North East Delhi is surrounded by important areas such as Bhajanpura, Dilshad Colony, Dilshad Garden, Preet Vihar, Tahirpur and Yamuna Vihar while other areas include Ghonda Colony, Jhilmil Colony, Kanti Nagar, Nathu Colony and Rohtash Nagar that are situated in close proximity to Shahdara.
North East Delhi District is further divided into three important administrative sub districts that include Seelampur, Seemapuri and Shahdara.
The nearest Metro Station of the North East Delhi District is the Shahdara Metro Station that runs up till Tis Hazari and links this region to other parts of Delhi. This District is also well connected by road and is just 30 minutes from the New Delhi Railway Station and an hour and a half drive from the IGI Airport.
