National Law University (NLU)
The National Law University also known as the 'University of Law' and 'NLUD' in short is a specialised State Law University located in Delhi that was established by the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi under the provisions of the National Law University Act of 2007 and Act 1 of 2008. NLUD is also considered as one of the elite National Law Schools in India that follows a five-year law degree model that was proposed and implemented by the Bar Council of India.
NLUD is also a premier Law University that has joined the list of prestigious bandwagon of several other premier Law Universities that have already established themselves in India. This Law University was set up with the main objective to create a premier 'Global Legal Law Institute' that could compete with the best of Law Colleges and Universities across the Country and the Globe. It focuses on imparting knowledge on the varied aspects of law to students and also to expose them to a wide range of opportunities in the field of Law and legal profession across India and Abroad.
The establishment of NLUD was initiated by the High Court of Delhi after which it was set up in 2008 at Sector 14 in Dwarka, New Delhi. It features a state of art infrastructure equipped with all the facilities for training, learning and research work in the field of Law and its allied disciplines. This Law University offers a 5-year integrated B. A., LL.B (Hons.) degree programme that commenced in August, 2008. It provides quality legal education to its students who are honed to become the new generation lawyers that are both competent and humane and hence, the university’s academic curriculum is designed as such to enable prospective lawyers to deal with the legal systems of India and other countries.
Since its commencement, The NLUD has won numerous accolades and award. The NLUD team comprising of Nishant Bhaskar, Nitika Dwivedi and Salmoli Choudhuri won the 3rd Position in the 4th Annual NALSAR Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Moot Court Competition that was held between 8th and 10th October, 2010 which was organized by the Nalsar University of Law at Hyderabad. The Team was appreciated and their efforts and performance were commended by the Judges.
Between 22nd & 24th October, 2010, a team of NLUD students participated in the 'Justice Hidayatullah National Memorial Moot Court Competition' and won the 3rd place. The Team comprised of Aditya Singha, Paramvir Singh and Devanshu Sajlan. This competition was organized by HNLU at Raipur. Aditya Singha was adjudged as the Best Speaker and won a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 while Devanshu Sajlan was adjudged as the Best Researcher and won a cash prize of Rs. 5,000 too. The entire NLUD team won a cash prize of Rs. 25, 000.
The NLUD team participated in the 'LAW ASIA International Moot Competition' and won the 5th position. The NLUD team comprised of Arjun Masters, Shweta Duggal and Saiteja Vangala. This competition was held between 11th & 14th November, 2010 at New Delhi.
Between 11th & 13th February, 2011, The NLUD team of students comprising of Mr. Vishwam Jindal, Mr. Sameer Dawar and Mr. Devesh Saboo reached the Semi Finals of the 12th D. M. Harish Memorial Government College International Moot court Competition that was held at Government Law College in Mumbai.
The NLUD team again participated in the '1st International Air Law Moot Court Competition' held within the NLUD Campus between 3rd & 6th March, 2010 and won the 3rd place. The NLUD team comprised of Hardeep Singh, Sameer Dawar and Paramvir Singh. Hardeep Singh was adjudged as the Best Oralist and won a scholarship for an LL.M. Programme in Air & Space Law at Leiden University [The Netherlands] which was presented by the Ministry of Transport of The Netherlands.
The NLUD University team that comprised of Law Students named Sarvjeet Singh, Akshay BD, Ankit Chauhan and Shreya Rastogi won the 52nd Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (India Round) by defeating the NUJS team from Kolkata. Akshay BD was adjudged as the Best Student Advocate of the competition while Shreya Rastogi was adjudged as the Best Student Advocate of the Finals.
