List of Gates in Delhi

Second City Gates in Delhi

The Gates of the Second Medieval City of Delhi named 'Siri Fort' lies in South Delhi near Hauz Khas and was constructed in 1304 during the Delhi Sultanate reign of Alla-Ud-Din Khilji with the main purpose to prevent intrusions from the Mughals and protect the city from enemies.

The Seven Gates were used as an entry and exit points for the rulers and had numerous Palaces built within with other richly built structures. The South-eastern Gate is the only one that is visible today but unfortunately in ruins that can be attributed to the following dynasties that later destroyed most of the stone structure and the artefacts of the fort and gates to make space for their own Palaces and structures.
